"I have never felt so utterly removed from city life - washing in jungle rivers, drinking from water vines, falling asleep in a hammock that I had erected to the sound of Howler Monkeys and Crickets. Walking into uncertainty with everything I needed on my back and complete trust in the Amerindian guides... Thank you Bushmasters for a new perspective."

Horseback Trail Ride

For the dedicated horseback adventurer there is nothing better than many day long trail rides in amazing places around the world. Well here is an awesome one; the North Rupununi of Guyana, where jungle meets mountains, meets savannah meets wetlands. Where you camp out at night, ride through remote Amerindian communities and taste true horseback adventure, as it has been for hundreds of years!

This 10 day horseback expedition will take you exploring through the jungle and savannah lands of the North Rupununi in Guyana - the source of the legendry El Dorado. The trip will see you travel well over 100km from the jungle clad Kanuku Mountains, across amazing landscapes to reach your destination close to the Pakariama Mountain range, a set of mountains which stretches for hundreds of miles and encompasses the famous Tepuis or flat top mountains that inspired the story of "The Lost World".

Riding the open ground you'll see King Vultures, Savannah Hawks and giant Jabiru Storks along side massive termite mounds and their nemesis, the Giant Anteater. You'll pass through local Amerindian communities where 30 little pairs of keen eyes watch you from their primary school!

This trip gives you the chance to watch real working ranches, visit traditional local communities and appreciate the cool evening savannah breeze from the sanctuary of your lazy hammock, swinging from the sandpaper tree.

Throughout you'll have a Bushmasters guide, two local vaqueros (cowboys) and a dedicated 4x4 support vehicle, which will meet you at the end of each day and be on call throughout.

Guyana is a truly unspoilt and remote country and you could be one of very few people to see the beauty up close.

This is extreme horseback riding in a land of adventure.

This trip is for confident riders of at least intermediate standard. You'll spend up to 6 hours a day in the saddle (with rest days) and will be mainly slow trotting and walking interspersed with the odd canter.

Horseback Jungle Add-On

For those on the Savannah Trail Ride we offer a 4 day extension to experience the deep jungle. Here you can paddle in dug out canoes, fish for piranha, spot wildlife like Anaconda, Giant Otters and Macaws and even go out at night looking for the eyeshine of tree snakes and Caiman.

At night you'll sleep in hammocks slung in the jungle with the sounds of the frogs, Cicada beetle and Howler Monkeys for company.

This short trip is an add on to the Savannah Trail ride and gives you the chance to see the Amazon Rainforest up close, something you'll dine out on for years!!
